Bedroom Design: 5 Bedrooms with a Library Feel

Books tend to be an essential ingredient in many rooms. Writers and readers turn to books to escape and decompress, which is why you’ll often find books in bedrooms. I have a bookshelf packed with a variety of reads in my bedroom –– you’d find everything from cookbook anthologies to travel books, to textbooks and bestsellers.
Let’s take a look at how books can mingle in bedrooms, and create a library within each of these five spaces.
This ultra-chic bedroom on the Upper West Side of Manhattan is far from the dark, stereotypical library. The faux fur adds a touch of glam while the shelves are strategically accessorized in this comfy, inviting apartment.

Glossy magazines, popular titles, and a selection of classics line the shelves of the bed wall in this modern oasis. The “Womb” chair and ottoman by Saarinen is the perfect scale for the corner. What a great spot to get lost in a suspenseful or humorous novel.

This Sydney, Australia bedroom comes saturated with titles and bold colors. The cut-out niches are a clever idea to break up the wall of books. The low platform bed is a good choice, allowing the library wall to be the focal point.

Bedroom Design: Keeping It Natural in a Bedroom

Natural materials and earth tones create a calming effect in most any space. In bedrooms, we welcome serene elements and colors to encourage relaxation, preparing us for a good night’s sleep or a lazy afternoon nap.
These four bedrooms inspire us to go back to basics with neutral colors, rough-hewn woods, and linens and cottons, while also focusing on what lies beyond the windows as much as what’s in the bedroom itself.
A Big Fork Montana bedroom boasts a lofty tree house feel. Nature surrounds, and the space resembles a screened porch with its wide windows and scenic view. Yellow on the bed seems to be the near-perfect color to contrast the amount of green outside. This room takes on a modern yet rustic aesthetic.
Driftwood attached to the wall, suspended oyster shells, and linen on the bed complete this shabby-chic bedroom. The earthy combination of materials takes us back to nature in the best way possible in this beachy yet primitive room. What an innovative design!
Natural materials are the basis for this eclectic Montreal bedroom. From the pine bed to the metal tableside lamp to the Africa headdress as artwork, this room is not only earthy but also interesting. With so much to look at, this space proves that neutral colors never need be boring.
Zen-like with a mid-century, Japanese design, this bedroom sports an unusually low bed with an asymmetrical bed wall. Somehow, all of the components work well together, including the garden stool as an accent piece. This home is located in Orange County, CA, which is no surprise to me. I feel relaxed just looking at the photo.
Bedroom Design: 4 Bedrooms that Feel Undeniably French

I adore all things French –– from the food and wine to the language, to furnishings and interiors, there’s a certain je ne sais quois that only comes from those things that originate in France.
That being said, I’ve always dreamed of having a Paris apartment or a country house in Provence. If you’re anything like me, you’ll appreciate these four fab bedrooms that feel undeniably French.
An Aubusson rug, Bergere, and the damask textiles give this room a formal French Country look. The puddled bed skirts, decorative screen, and silk bed fabrics make the space ooze romance.
This designer could have shopped the Paris flea markets all day to come up with a very spontaneous, ‘undesigned’ yet chic space. The bed is a reupholstered French antique, and the apple-picking ladders more than likely hail from the countryside in France.
This bedroom for prima ballerina Ana Botafogo boasts a very regal feel. Located in Brazil, the space contains a host of French-inspired elements. The mix of pattern and texture, damask wall covering, formal bed, and French furnishings bring the large room to life.
This stunning French bedroom offers an up-to-date, refreshing take with its grey and white color scheme. Classic French details mingle with some modern touches. Take, for instance, the straight-lined bed with wide bolsters in front of the upholstered wall. A marble floor and crystal chandelier complete this fabulous, formal bedroom
Bedroom Design: 5 Bedrooms with a Moroccan Feel

Often characterized by mixing bold, busy patterns, lantern light fixtures, and ornamental surface details, Moroccan rooms aren’t as common as some other design styles. Still, when done well, Moroccan-themed spaces can be lovely, happy rooms, and even feel restful enough to capture a good sleep.
Take a peek at these five Moroccan-inspired bedrooms, each of which pushes the creative envelope in one sense or another.
You probably wouldn’t ever think that an all-white bedroom could be Moroccan in style, but the above photo proves otherwise. Stylish and sophisticated, this neutral space boasts a Mediterranean feel. The designer used pattern to create a modern, Moroccan escape that combines a sleeping area and sitting room.
A Moroccan-style wall covering sets the tone for this unique bedroom. Bold and busy, the bed wall becomes the focal point of this compact, cozy space and influences the rest of the design, which leans toward contemporary.
Going Moroccan in a nursery? Yes, indeed, and it works. From the baskets to the hot pink poufs to the unmatched pendants and artwork, this cheery room sports all the right touches for a newborn and parents to feel happy and relaxed. This room can easily transition into a child’s room or even an adult’s bedroom with just a few minor adjustments.
Tall headboards and simple bed skirts in a Moroccan-themed fabric, a tile floor, and the teal and marigold combine nicely to create a bright, twin bedroom. Notice how the teal paint on the lower half of the walls is the same shade that’s on the leading edge of the drapery. The color scheme ties all of the elements together.
Bright blue with gold, plenty of pattern, and the right amount of red give this space drama. A tub in the bedroom isn’t traditional, but lends a true Moroccan feel to this color-filled suite.
Bedroom Design: Nantucket Style

With warmer weather approaching, sun and sand time is right around the corner. When I dream of beach houses and coastal getaways, I can’t help but think of Nantucket, the charming seaport town off the coast of Cape Cod.
Nantucket has its own style and personality: nautical themes, muted blues, crisp whites, and natural materials are a few elements that characterize the island’s shingle-style houses.
In a coastal mood now? Take a peek at these five pretty bedrooms that will leave you fantasizing about a summer in Nantucket.
On the traditional side, this impeccably decorated blue and white bedroom sports a New England feel. No detail has been left out –– from the perfectly fluffed pillows to the throw on the ottoman and touch of greenery on the mantle, the room would be a pleasure to relax in for an afternoon or sleep in during an extended stay.
This spacious bedroom boasts a monochromatic scheme with a view of the sea. The space is relaxing and soothing. Who needs anything more?
I love the elegance in this bedroom. Notice the crisp Roman shade, Fortuny-esque pattern on the headboard, and the simple chandelier. Although the beach doesn’t immediately come to mind when I look at this room, I can easily imagine the space in an 18th century Nantucket cottage.
This modern Nantucket renovation still features classical elements. Notice the extra bed along the side of the room, which is pretty typical in beach houses.
What an adorable attic bedroom with a nautical theme. The ladder goes to a boat hatch and leads to a widow’s walk roof deck. The clever, uncluttered room sleeps multiple people and appears to get plenty of natural light.
